A place of unending beauty where, if you know where it hides its secrets, you can bag a room with the most serene view. That is except for between the hours of 10 am to 5 pm when every 10 minutes the tranquillity is interrupted by a boat full of tourists who momentarily sway around the bend and pass out of view. This along with the constant clattering of hooves is an accepted part of being in Brugge. Which is all fine, as for most of the day the hotel rooms are empty, as endless delights are found and savoured whilst wandering the warren of cobbled streets. Take note, this is not a city for heels.
